dreadful box

born here

into this dreadful box

four cardboard walls

a cardboard floor

and a sunroof

how wonderful you see this box

but it is a truly dreadful box

looking in from outside

you forget

the inside is cramped

stuffy

ventilation lets in rain

lets in thunder and hail

this cramped box

no room to dress

no room to strip

no room to laugh

or room to cry

just four walls of cardboard

and a terribly soggy floor

and a cramped box

and a stifling box

and a stifling box

you’d probably tape it shut too.

pirouette

pirouette

pirouette, dance for me,

tell me you are happy. pirouette

and that all is a dream

i would be scared for,

if this was, in fact, reality

far more than i am scared for,

so pirouette

you save me

keep me held inside

don't wake me from this slumber

i can hold my place

but only here

but i know

deep

deep down,

this dream can’t last any longer

outside

and the frost on the window is melting

and i am warm

and i am hot
