Emmy Dominguez

less of a poet

you may think

i am full of

rotten poetry,

not the feel good

kind of poetry,

just rot in poetry

when you

stop reading,

my words shoot

to kill when you

stop listening,

all my self

devotion turns

violent – i’ve

polished my

anger to be

glaring enough to

make it hard for

you to ignore

because i know you’d rather

read shit about

flowers and purity

and dreams of

tomorrow

yet

i am here now–

i’ve got my teeth in you,

let this poem

rot

in your stomach.

Bio

My name is Emmy Dominguez, and I am a young college student based in Southern California. I am Chicana with Mexican and Salvadoran roots and am currently studying for my BA in creative writing. My poetry is commonly centered around femininity and my Latina identity and takes inspiration from poets I admire, like Gloria Anzaldúa and Sandra Cisneros. I've been previously published in Latin@ Literatures.
